Pappa Bear

WT1108 - Wild Animals

For this card, I started by pulling out the fun Tim Holtz bear die cut and cutting all the layers needed to build him. Piecing him together is always satisfying because the character really comes to life once the shading, shapes, and little details stack into place. His expression has a great mix of whimsy and personality, which makes him an easy focal for a masculine card.

To give him a fitting backdrop, I went through my stash and found a tree patterned designer paper that instantly set the right woodsy tone. The colors in the print echo the browns and neutrals in the bear, which helps everything feel cohesive. I layered the tree paper on kraft cardstock for warmth, then mounted that panel on a brown card base to reinforce the earthy palette and tie the whole design together.

The sentiment is kept simple with a clean Happy Father's Day strip popped up on dimensionals. The added height gives it presence without competing with the bear and keeps the layout balanced.

This card is headed to my son so he can give it to his dad for Father's Day. He has nicknamed him Pappa Bear, so this design could not be more perfect for the occasion.

Thank you for stopping by to see my card today. Your thoughtful comments are always appreciated. If you leave a note, a visit to your blog will follow.

  4. What a brilliant die cut Lisa- your bear reminds me of Baloo, my favourite Jungle Book character. Perfect choice of backing paper too- he looks as if he's striding through the jungle! xx
